The singer who seems to have fallen from grace tells Harpers Bazaar mag that she plans to move back to her native Louisiana to avoid the press. R&B singer ERIC BENET has branded ex-wife HALLE BERRY a liar for telling an American magazine he cheated on her approximately "27 times". Berry made the scathing comments when probed about the alimony paid to her former spouse, adding she "finds it difficult" to hand over her wages to an unfaithful partner. But Benet is furious at the comments and insists he hasn't received a penny from the X-MEN beauty. Now he's pleading with the star to stop her outspoken attacks in the media because it's making life for both him and his daughter INDIA unbearable. He tells the New York Post, "If she said that, that I cheated on her 27 times, then she is simply lying. Straight out, that's a lie and a gross, gross exaggeration of what happened in our marriage. "I've admitted my indiscretion and apologised and took responsibility. I think maybe it's time for Halle to take some responsibility, instead of constantly casting herself in this victim mode and implying her commitment to our marriage was without flaw. "I have refrained from ongoing attacks on her, and she needs to do the same. She should leave me and my daughter, India, in peace. "Halle used to insist she loved India, though she hasn't seen her and has barely communicated with her in years, and not because I've stopped her. If she really had any feeling toward my girl, she'd realise how hurtful such statements are. Especially when they are untrue."
STAR JONES REYNOLDS has hit back at former THE VIEW co-host BARBARA WALTERS' claim she was 'fired' from the show due to poor individual ratings. Walters, 74, was stunned when Jones Reynolds, 44, told viewers and her fellow presenters she would be leaving the ABC program after nine years yesterday morning (27JUN06), because the announcement was planned for Thursday (29JUN06). Walters, who created and produces the show, said, "I love Star and I was trying to do everything I possibly could - up until this morning when I was betrayed - to protect her. "I would have loved for Star to have left and not said 'I was fired,' and not make it look like the program was somehow being cruel to her." Walters admits ABC network bosses declined to renew Jones Reynolds' contract after research reportedly showed audiences were turned off by the former lawyer's dramatic weight loss and her 2004 marriage to AL REYNOLDS, where she plugged companies on air in exchange for freebies for her wedding. Walters adds, "We tried to talk them out of it and we tried to give Star time to redeem herself in the eyes of the audience, and the research just kept getting worse." Jones Reynold's representative BRAD ZEIFMAN hits back, telling the New York Daily News, "This was never brought to Star's attention. "To the contrary, in November Star was told by executive producers that there's no truth to the tabloid rumours and that they were happy with her performance ratings and had no issues or concerns."
Tori Spelling is furious she never received a phone call from her mother CANDY saying her father AARON SPELLING had died and instead received an email from a friend informing her of her father's death while she was at dinner. Tori's father passed away on Friday night (23JUN06) and she received an email condolence message on her Blackberry from a friend who had just seen the news on TV. Tori was in Toronto, Canada with her husband DEAN MCDERMOTT and had booked a flight to Los Angeles for the following morning (24JUN06). Aaron had suffered a stroke five days earlier (18JUN06) and Tori believed he was resting comfortably at home and in no immediate danger. She tells American publication Us Weekly, "I was told he could have had months to live. "A friend of mine had seen a TV report and emailed me, 'I'm so sorry. I just heard your father died.' And I was just in total shock." Tori was stunned that she had not received a call from anyone in her family before the death was made public. She says her grief quickly turned to anger adding, "My first thought was, 'I can't believe my mother didn't call me!'"
